So, we're still here - thanks to several lovely people who have been posting fic and other goodies. Please take a look around at those, and thank you! Also, thank you to master-mod fiercelydreamed who was on top of things with the DADT repeal and posted a Military challenge! There are several wonderful works for that too.

Now, three_weeks_for_dw is coming around again, and if you recall (I do, with extreme clarity and burning shame), we had a contest last year. Well, part of the reason we never posted results was that we had ties in all of the categories! There was one moderately clear winner - majoline, who commented on the most 3W4DW works, so that's 100 DW points! (Many thanks to iadorespike who donated points for the prizes.)

The rest of the points prizes are going to be rolled over into something else; but let's talk about that. A few issues we'd love to get your input about:

-What do you think about the flashfic-style challenges? Do you like them? Should we get them rolling again? Would you rather see something else?

-Help! Anyone have free time available to help mod? Most of our mods have run into the real life busies and we need someone(s) who is(are) willing to help us out with keeping things on track (especially if we go with the flashfic challenges again). If you are that person(s), please comment here or email us at queerlygen (at) gmail (dot) com.

-How do you feel about another 3W4DW contest? We have prize points left over, and we did get a moderately nice turnout, and hopefully we will have another mod or two to help with the management of prizes, and... yes? Maybe?

-Any other thoughts or suggestions? All welcome, I really love this comm and I want to get it back on its feet.

I greatly enjoyed the flashfic-style challenges and would like to see those again. THey were inspiring and fun.

Another 3W4DW contest also sounds fantastic.

I would like to help, if not by modding, then stuff like tagging and graphics, if they're needed.

Oh, I will most definitely take you up on both those offers! (I have no idea what kind of graphics we might need, but I'm thinking banners for the 3W4DW challenge, and/or the monthly flashfic challenges? Would that be too much work?

Also, we totally need help tagging - I just realized that there are a fair number of posts missing fandoms. :(

I've given you access to the tags, and the 3W4DW starts on April 25th, so just over a month for that one. I'm figuring I'll put up the next flashfic challenge on the 28th, so a banner for that would be fantastic! We won't know the theme until the week before - I figure I'll put up a poll over the weekend and then close sometime next week. That'd only give a few days if you wanted to make a challenge-specific banner, but twelve days or so if you just want to make a generic flashfic banner. How does that sound?

28th of this month, yes? A few days is more than enough, as long as I notice it coming up (but that's what calendar alerts are for). I think I'd prefer to make it theme specific.

Yep, March 28th! I'm going to close the poll on, say, the 23rd, so that'd give you four or five days to do something specific? The challenges are three weeks on, one week off (to determine the new challenge), and that way we're all lined up to have the next flashfic challenge match the 3W4DW challenge.

I noticed the RPF tags are all "rpf: person's name" but there's also "fandom: 1960s music rpf". We can tag both with the person's name and the "60s music" tag if appropriate, or then it might be better to make the tag "rpf: 1960s music". What do you think?

Oh, and what about fandoms with many incarnations? So, for a fic based on the Sherlock Holmes 2009 film, I could tag it as both "fandom: sherlock holmes (2009)" and "fandom: sherlock holmes".

Okay, fandoms are all tagged. All the rpf tags I added were "rpf: person's name" rather than "rpf: mythbusters" or "rpf: bandom" as the poster may have suggested, waiting on your word about that one. I also tagged the one Sherlock BBC one as just that, and not with the overarching "Sherlock Holmes" tag.

The fandom: 1960s music rpf was my goof - I was doing it according to the rules of my other community. I think sticking with the tags as they're going now (rpf: name) should be just fine.

We have over a thousand tags, so I don't see an issue with different tags for different versions of canon. Best to have separate canon tags for it and the 2009 movie and the other iterations, I think.

There's also an "rpf: other" tag that a couple of people used, I can go back and change those to specific names, too.

I just thought of using the ubertag in case people wanted to browse for all incarnations - all Sherlocks, all Star Trek series, and so on. But just using the specific one is probably quite enough, they can always check the tag list for the other subseries.

:D I had fun! This is the sort of thing that (ahem) keeps me from being bored at work.

Oh, I see, so there'd be a Sherlock BBC tag and an overarching Sherlock Holmes tag, and it'd get both? That's like the AO3; I do sort of like that idea. I'm fine with it.

Oh - and that's why I goofed on the fandom: 1960s music rpf, because the person used fandom: other (which is useful as a sort of !needs tag tag), so yeah, rpf: other should also be switched over to the correct person(s), I think, as rpf: other was just to offer something to people whose tags weren't available yet.

Yay, not being bored at work! I've been having trouble with that myself lately. D:

For the overarching tag, or for the specific version? I think simply fandom: sherlock holmes would be good for over arching and then fandom: sherlock (BBC) and fandom: sherlock holmes (2009)... I think we wait for any more beyond that; I think the one version is called the Granada version for some reason? And I know there are others; potentially we could call them by their year, if they're movies and their Sherlock, if they're TV. And then fandom: sherlock holmes (doyle) would be for the book fandom specifically.

Yeah, the TV series with Jeremy Brett, based on Doyle's short stories, was a Granada production, but lordy, there are so many. I'm sure BBC's done a few as well, but everyone knows what Sherlock (BBC) means because it's just the first name. Movies marked by year sounds good, plus the full title (like 'The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes').
